Misleading Labels Uncovered: GCCA Requires Correction of Juice Packaging

Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency (GCCA) determined that Kampa LLC violated the Law of Georgia on the Protection of Consumer Rights by using misleading packaging for its product “Cherry and Pomegranate Juice 100%.”

While the product’s label created the impression that cherry and pomegranate were the main ingredients, further analysis revealed that 80% of the juice’s actual content was reconstituted concentrated apple juice. This discrepancy between perception and content was deemed deceptive and contrary to fair commercial practice.

GCCA ordered the company to:

  • Revise the product labelling in line with national legal standards and
  • Eliminate any visual elements that could mislead consumers about the actual composition of the product.

This case highlights GCCA’s firm stance that product packaging must accurately reflect product content, empowering consumers to make informed decisions.
